During a trip to Glacier National Park 5 years ago we rode the 32 mile Enchanted Highway. Today we find that Gary Greff, a teacher and native of Regent, North Dakota, has continued to add to the sculptures and went even further to draw tourists to Regent by building the Enchanted Castle.
For history and photos of many of the sculptures along the highway click here: ENCHANTED HIGHWAY JULY 2010
New sculptures that I had not seen before were the Dollhouse in downtown Regent and the Cowboy on the highway.
While the giant sculptures along the highway are really terrific I don’t know quite what to say about the Enchanted Castle. We asked for directions to the Enchanted Castle….and while their web site ( ENCHANTED CASTLE WEBSITE ) presented a fascinating and charming hotel, restaurant and tavern what we found was a castle facade in front of a motel that wasn’t particularly inviting and actually looked abandoned. The place appeared to be closed — there were a couple cars and a truck, but no people around. If the pictures on their website are any indication it is definitely a place you would want to visit, have dinner or spend the night, but I do recommend calling them to check their status before planning to spend the night there. And if any readers have had dinner or spent the night there recently, please, please write a review in the comments.
