Pacific Beach is one of my favorite beaches in spite of the fact that much of the shoreline is now lined with high-rise hotels and condos. Having called Pacific Beach “Home” for four years back in the late 60s, I have a soft spot in my heart the place and I’m a bit biased.
Pacific Beach beach stretches from the Mission Bay Jetty to the cliffs of La Jolla. The Boardwalk runs over 3 miles along the beach and it’s a great place to walk, ride a bike, or roller blade. If you are not one to walk a long distance you can find surreys, or a variety of bikes to rent. It’s a great way to see Pacific Beach.
Crystal Pier is a favorite fishing spot for the locals. Once it was exclusively for pedestrians, but the developers moved in and built cabins on the first half of the pier. It’s pretty strange to walk by people’s cabins when you’re on the pier. It’s even stranger to see their cars parked on the pier by their cabins. This, in my humble opinion, takes away from the beauty of the beach and pier, but I’m sure it’s a spectacular place to spend a night or two.
