When you are traveling 2300 miles, you have to face it…. there is going to be at least one day where if you stay on your destination track all you get is the landscape, but don’t sell the landscape short!
Traveling southwest on Hwy 54 from Wichita KS to Interstate 40 and west to Santa Rosa NM is pretty sparsely populated until you get to Tucumcari NM. I mean the human population is pretty sparse, but cattle, that’s a different story. It would appear to me that Kansas has got to be at the top of the list in number of cattle feeder lots, hence the cattle population is not sparse at all. The terrain and the climate also rapidly changes along those 480 miles from Wichita to Santa Rosa.
Sights along the way:
Leaving Wichita after a wonderful breakfast at CrestHill Suites
I love windmills:
Some things just strike you funny…. This tree needs trimmed and it could use a few more decorations too. I bet Christmas lights would have been nice.
Time for lunch at the Smoke Hoss was good, and when the lunch crowd was pretty much settled in the owners/chefs came out and made the rounds ensuring that everything was all right and visiting a bit. It is always nice when you enter an establishment and you know you are important to them.
Back on the road:
And now it’s time to call it a day and get a good night’s sleep at the Best Western Santa Rosa Inn. Tomorrow is a big day!
