NORTHEAST KINGDOM – AUTUMN

2006 – . the National Geographic Society named the Northeast Kingdom as the most desirable place to visit in the country and the ninth most desirable place to visit in the world.

2010 – Yankee magazine named the Northeast Kingdom the second favorite romantic getaway and the third favorite family getaway in New England.

Today I name Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom the best place to visit in Autumn if it is the brilliant colors of Fall bursting from the rolling hills and mountains you seek.  It is as if all the villages, farms and brooks have mosaic frames designed by nature.

The Northeast Kingdom, located in the northeast corner of Vermont encompasses Essex, Orleans and Caledonia counties.  55 towns sit on 2027 square miles.  Approximately 80 percent of the land is covered with forest and 58% of the trees are northern hardwood, and that is why everywhere you turn you see brilliant patchwork quilts of color.
