MILL RUINS PARK

Located on the west side of Saint Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River is Mill Ruins Park.  If you are walking on the Stone Arch Bridge you can view the park  through the arches located on the northwest end of the bridge.  Many of the flour mills along the Mississippi were abandoned, collapsed or burned and covered up.  Excavation of the area began in the early 1980s to assess the archeological sites along the riverfront.  The test excavations revealed many sites of interest and in the 1990s the exposed ruins became valuable educational, tourism and commercial assets.
