Who knew that located in Nashville, TN there was a real GEM? Lane Motor Museum has the most fascinating collection of cars. If anybody had told me I would thoroughly enjoy spending almost four hours looking at cars I would have thought they’d lost their mind. I am one who knows no makes or models and identify cars by color only. The only thing I really care about vehicles is that mine starts when I want to go someplace.
When arriving at the museum you park in a free, covered garage; admission is $2 to $7 ($5 for Seniors); you start your self-directed tour with a video which gives you information from everything to the history of the building as well as the founder of the museum. The organization of the vehicles is unique in that flags hang above groups of vehicles to help you identify the national origin of the cars. The cars are not roped off and while you are asked not to touch the vehicles you can stand right next to them and check out the interiors. Kids love the separate area where there were cars they could sit in and pretend to drive.
There were signs explaining the significance of each car in the museum and it was interesting to learn that each car was the product of “time and place, of need, of desire, and even political ambition.” A visit to the Lane Motor Museum is truly an enlightening experience and just plain fun.
There are approximately 400 vehicles displayed in the museum. Check out their website: http://lanemotormuseum.org/
